Description
Back from Brixham to SYC on the Exe on Triskelle. With the wind behind us, it was a much faster journey than the in to the wind outward journey. In fact we steered a little way off the run to keep the genoa full and the speed up. The trip back up the Exe just over an hour after low water was interesting. There was, somewhat surprisingly, plenty of water in the lower Exe (never much less than 2m) but just north of buoy 18 the depth shelved by over a metre over about 20 metres distance. To a depth just less than Triskelle's draught - whoops! Triskelle came off the mud within about 10 minutes but perhaps this is another reason to use the "inshore passage" close to the west bank. Overall - a great end-of-season trip out.
