Exe to Brittany 2024
429 nautical miles, 77 hours and 5 ports.
In mid 2024 David K kindly asked if I would like to join him on his trimaran Triskelle for a trip across to Brittany. The plan was for me to join David in getting Triskelle across the channel to Brittany and then "round the corner" to somewhere like Benodet. Jill would then join David for a sailing holiday. However, because of the time it took to find suitable weather windows for the longer journeys and the major "tidal gates", Brest ended up being the best location for the "crew change".
Click the links below and then perhaps click the "GPS track details" tab on the left hand side of the resultant page to read some overview details of the sailing and then maybe try the "Photos slide show" tab on the right hand side of each page.

Exe to Salcombe | Sunday 14th July | A sail from Starcross Yacht Club on the Exe round Start Point and into Salcombe. |
Salcombe to Roscoff | Tuesday 16th July | From Salcombe across to Roscoff in Brittany. Fairly strong winds to start with but a lovely sail. |
Roscoff to L'Aber Wrac'h | Friday 19th July | From Roscoff round to L'Aber Wrac'h. The plan was to go through the Chenal de I'lle de Batz but early morning fog put paid to that plan so we sailed round the top of the Ile De Batz. |
L'Aber Wrac'h to Camaret | Tuesday 23rd July | With a decent "weather window" finally in the offing, it was down through the Chenal Du Four and into Camaret Sur Mer in the Iroise Sea. |
Camaret to Brest | Thursday 25th July | A short trip across from Camaret through the Goulet de Brest and into Brest. Mizzly with about a mile's visibility. |
Brest to L'Aber Wrac'h | Saturday 10th August | A stonkingly hot day for the sail through the Goulet De Brest, though the Chanal Du Four and on to L'Aber Wrac'h. |
L'Aber Wrac'h to Roscoff | Monday 12th August | From L'Aber Wrac'h to Roscoff. It was just a little too misty to go through the Chenal de I'lle de Batz and we were a little late for the tide. |
Roscoff to Salcombe | Tuesday 13th August | Back from Roscoff to Salcombe. Started off as dead run and then went to a very broad reach as the wind picked up. The rain and poor visibility came back just in time for the night time entry to Salcombe! |
Salcombe back to the Exe | Wednesday 14th August | ... and finally returning to the Exe. The northerly wind didn't look too promising but overall a rather nice sail to return to the Exe. |
