Mylor Bridge to the Pandora | 2014-09-06 | Lovely dinner at the Pandora Inn - first of the holiday. The 1 in 4 hill on the way back was a bit of an ask when full of Cornish Ratler and Gurnard (or Guiness and Mackerel in Lizzie's case)

Anniversary dinner at the Pandora Inn | 2014-09-11 | After the 6.5 miles yomp round St Anthony Head, another mile and half to the Pandora Inn for our anniversary dinner. Fifteen years married, 21 years together and 30 years since we met. Less for murder as they say (and Liz never reads this blog - I think)!

Some steep up and downy bits along the way.

Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay | 2014-09-17 | Actually the GPS track is just of Mawgan Porth but most of Scooby's walk was at Watergate Bay which is one bay to the west of here and quite a bit bigger.

Expensive pints at newly furbished bar on way back.

Mortehoe | 2018-09-15 | Another one of Liz's favourite walks. From North Morte campsite down to Lee and then up and down the rather strenuous coast path round to Mortehoe Point.
The coast path coming up to Morte Point is genuinely scary for someone like me with just a hint of vertigo. Still - survived again!

Rock, Padstow and Stepper Point | 2018-09-13 | Staying at the rather nice (but rather expensive) campsite directly overlooking Polzeath beach, we drove down to Rock and caught the ferry over to Padstow.
Padstow was heaving with tourists as expected (even on a Thursday in the middle of September). We then walked on past the famous Doom Bar and on to Stepper Point (on the west side of the entrance to the Camel Estuary).
Then back along the sands of the Doom bar at low water to give Scooby hound a run.

Lands End, Sennen and Gwynver Beach | 2019-09-14 | Had another free day's parking on the extornionate £6 Lands End parking fee. Walked to Sennen and saw lots of yachts doing the "inshore passage" round Lands' End. On to Gwynver beach (because Scooby asked). Ice creams at Sennen and then back to Treen and G&Ts on the cliff top as the sun went down (and the nudists disappeared).

Woolacombe Beach | 2022-09-17 | We couldn't come to north Devon without giving Scooby Hound his walk on Woolacombe Beach.
However, because he is an old boy, we have to reduce the amount of time he gets to spend haring around after the ball on the beach. So the outward leg was along Marine Drive rather than the beach.

Port Quin to Port Issac | 2024-09-19 | So the walking guide said there would be sections of the walk from Port Quin to Port Issac that would be unfenced vertical drops. I was hoping that they'd be towards the end where it would be too much effort to turn around. But they were right from the start. I like my coast paths to have a wall or a field or preferably both between me and instant death. Not about one foot and then oblivion. So we turned round and tried an alternate root. But that didn't work out either so we retraced our steps and took the inland root.
Port Issac nice enough in an "overrun by tourists with a Doc Martin fetish" sort of way.
No complaints about the pasty or ice cream though.

Pityme pub walk | 2021-09-19 | To the village of Pityme for a pint.
Scooby demanded a bit more of a walk of his "restrictions" on Perranporth.
The OS 1:25000 maps on the GPS found a "shortcut" through some fields of corn - came out right by Sharps Brewery (of Doom Bar beer fame - not that either of us drink beer).

Hayle Towans and The Bucket Of Blood | 2015-09-17 | Scooby's beach holiday continues! In theory there are five separate beaches from Hayle (there are certainly five separate lifguard stations) but at low tide they all blend into one seemingly endless beach. Scooby chased the ball from one end to the other. The Bucket Of Blood is the name of a pub in Phillack, Hayle - we didn't stop there but the name makes a good title for the walk.

Perranporth for Scooby Hound | 2021-09-19 | Scooby Hound would have the sulks for weeks if he found at we'd been to Cornwall an not given him a low tide walk at Perranporth.
Sccoby's knocking on a bit but would still run until he drops - it's just that he'd drop a bit earlier these days so the "ball action" has to be rationed a little bit.

Portloe and the Roseland Heritage Coast | 2015-09-24 | A rather long and rather hard walk (for us) as the last walk of our summer hols.
From Carne Beach on the south side of the Roseland peninsula, along the coast to Portloe and back via Veryan and Treworlas beach.
Longer than the guide book said and some steep hills! Not too scary on the cliff tops.
320 meters of vertical elevation apparently - no wonder we were knackered at the end!

Quick paddle round Cawsand/Kingsand bay | 2015-09-25 | The forecast offshore north to north west turned out to be almost a southerly so there some small waves as we headed off from Cawsand to Fort Picklecombe. Lindisfarne - Holy Island | 2016-09-06 | A walk around the island of Lindisfarne.
The journey there was as expected with the road being a causeway accessible at low tide.
Once there though, any thoughts of peaceful contemplation etc were blown away by the huge crowds.
Skipping swiftly on past the priory and the castle (not least because we'd forgotten our NT cards), we yomped on to the north of the island which was much more pleasing.
Scooby's second Northumberland beach well up to scratch apparently.

Cheswick Beach | 2016-09-09 | On the advice of Scott C from work, we took the back roads to find Cheswick Beach.
Another top Northumbrian beach according to Scooby hound.
The beach was pretty much deserted.
May be that was due to the warning signs about unexploded ordnance and areas of quicksand?
We took the view that that was just the locals trying to keep the grockles from their favourite beach (is grockle the correct term up north?).
Anyway - we didn't explode or sink but maybe we turned round slightly earlier than we would normally have!

Scooby happy that the "beach quotient" picking up again.
Then along the cliff top to the pub in Moelfre and back again.
The campsite we were staying at was good with a gate right on to the beach. However, the rules and regulations were a little OTT
Actually, we'd recommend the place but they do themselves no favours with their rules and regs so we went on looking for the more liberal parts of Anglesey (well - one can live in hope).

Treen to Lamorna | 2024-09-17 | A quite tough coast path walk from Treen via Penberth Cove and Tater Du lighthouse to Lamorna Cove.
Lots of up and downy bits, some muddy bits, some very muddy bits and some scary as fxxk edge of cliff bits. So something for everyone really unless you want easy field walking.
But the drama was watching a racing yacht running under full sails downwind a couple of hundred metres inside the Runnel Stone south cardinal at low tide and towards the breaking water. Looked again 2 minutes later and he was dropping all sails and clearly on the rocks. Rang the coastguard who, as expected, had already been informed (probably by Gwenapp Head Coast Watch).
The coastguard said that Sennen RNLI had been tasked so we watched them arrive. Their offshore boat couldn't get too close because of the rocks so the launched their rib. We think they may have taken the sole (?) sailor off and then they waited until the yacht floated off the rocks after high tide. Not too sure what happened to the yacht after that!

Woolacombe and Putsborough | 2017-09-22 | Scooby wouldnt have been happy if we'd come to north Devon and not given him a run along Woolacombe Beach at low tide. In a fairly wet and windy two week holiday, this was the only walk where we actually got soaked by the rain. However, we dried out a bit in the cafe at Putsborough and then the walk back in the wind meant that we were dry by the time we got back to the camper van on Marine Drive.
The photos include a couple from North Morte campsite looking at the sunset over Lundy Island.

Saunton Sands and Burrows | 2017-09-23 | Scooby's final beach walk of the holiday. Along the seemingly endless Saunton Sands at low tide. Then back inland to the east of the Burrows before finally cutting across the Burrows to give Scooby a final bit of of beach action before an ice cream at Saunton Sands.

Trellisick Gardens | 2024-09-11 | Scooby Hound died at 05:00 in the morning at St Columb Major. We got to Trellisick shortly after the sun came up and did one of his favourite walks to pass the time until our next campsite opened.

St Anthonys Head | 2018-09-04 | On to Trewince camp site and one of Liz's favourite walks - around St Anthonys Head.
Stunning views - some of the early photos could be of the Mediterranean.
After going past the light house at the end of St Anthony's Head the walk is then along the eas

Rosemullion Head | 2018-09-05 | A new take on another of Liz's favourite walks - to Rosemullion Head (between the Fal and the Helford).
Scooby allowed us to just sit a read for a hour or so while watching the strange floaty things out to sea).
Then back via Mawnan Smith with the walk extended a bit as Scooby couldn't be trusted to cross a field full of cows - even on a lead!

Helford River | 2018-09-06 | A short walk down to one of our favourite canoeing spots on the Helford - without a canoe this time.
This is where Scooby previously learnt to swim just for the fun of it so Liz was keen to take him back for another paddle.

Logan Rock and Penberth Cove | 2018-09-07 | On to one of our favourite campsites - Treen (just near the Minack Theatre and Lands End).
Photos are from the "nature ramble" that Liz went on - organised by the Treen pirate. Photos of Scooby at Penberth Cove are by Liz as the nature ramble also went that way.

Gwenapp Head | 2018-09-08 | Another new take on a favourite walk. From Treen, via St Levans, Porthgwarra and on to Gwenapp Head (just along from Lands End and happily not touched by the awful tat at Lands End).
We could see the rain showers getting blown in from the Atlantic - but as they were mostly horizontal it was possible to keep mostly dry by sheltering behind lumps of granite.
