Praa Sands to Cudden Point | 2020-09-15 | Along the south west coast path from Praa Sands to Cudden Point. Past Prussia Cove and on to Cudden Point for great views across Mounts Bay and Saint Michael's Mount.
See the photos for the pussy cat carrying hippie - it's not me, I've got a got a dog to keep happy.

Dartmouth to QAB Plymouth | 2018-06-17 | From Dartmouth round to Plymouth.
With Spring Tides and a forecast that was F5 gusting F6, we planned to take a cautious route round Start Point staying about a mile and half off.
However, as we motored out from Slapton we encountered some large waves at the edge of the Skerries / the edge of Start Race. But as they were all fairly regular they were quite fun!
Once round Start the wind increased a bit to gusting F6 and one particular wave dumped a load of water in the cockpit. However, with Dark Side of the Moon tracks from the Pulse Pink Floyd album playing on the waterproof bluetooth speaker and the course after Prawle Point allowing us to stop motor sailing, we were then flying along towards Plymouth.
So into QAB marina much earlier than expected.

Penlee Point | 2024-05-12 | A hot, if misty, day and an old boy so we only did a short walk to Penlee Point. Found some new places to sit and watch the world go by on the estuary. New beach to visit at low tide

Orcombe Point Paddling | 2023-10-26 | Around a low tide and out to (pretty much) Orcombe Point.
Lovely late October day with little wind and a fairly big tide.
The recent easterly storm has made quite dramatic changes to Bull Hill Bank.

Morte Point | 2023-09-16 | With Scooby now a bit of an old boy, we did a shorter than usual walk round Morte Point. Age is no barrier to him lunging for sheep (he's on the lead) and eating sheep shit.

Penlee Point | 2023-09-04 | Very hot day so too hot to take Scooby on our usual Rame Head walk. So we stopped at Penlee Point and watched a helicopter taking off with supplies for the Eddystone Light House.

Dartmouth to Plymouth | 2023-06-18 | A very gentle sail and motor from Dittisham on the Dart round to QAB in Plymouth.
With the gentle wind both Start Point and Prawle Point were pussycats even though it was Springs.
We probably sailed about half the way from Start to Plymouth with a fair amount of tidal assist.
Very pleasant gentle summer's day sailing.
Missed the planned train back from Plymouth due to a taxi cock up! Derek H continuing on to Falmouth (for the Scillies) the next day.

Straight Point Paddling | 2023-06-15 | A near enough perfect day's paddling. Out with the tide against just the start of a sea breeze. Then along the coast to Straight Point. Flat calm and pretty much no wind.
The Marines were firing otherwise I'd have gone on further.
Then back via the beach cafe (the choccie ice cream not as nice as Route 2's) and then pushed back up the estuary by the tide and building sea breeze. Hardly a cloud in the sky. Just about perfect.

Baggy Point | 2023-04-02 | Another yomp round Baggy Point. Very nice walk - a bit wet / muddy climbing back up from Croyde across to Putsborough.
Scooby Hound a bit distressed to only get 15 minutes of football on Woolacombe Beach but he is an old boy now.

Morthoe walk | 2022-09-18 | A slightly new take on an old favourite walk around Morthoe.
A long walk for us - especially given the slightly fearsome uppy/downy bits on the coast path.
The final climb to Morte Point was just as super-scary as I remembered it.

Polzeath, Pentire Point and The Rumps | 2022-09-12 | After much swearing at Polzeath at the start of the walk for a failure to provide dog bins or to mark the coastpath (given they don't allow dogs on beaches), it turned into a lovely walk.
Out to Pentire Point and then along to The Rumps (and ancient Brits cost fort).
Quite scary - but not super scary - along the cliff top at time.
Scooby Hound sad he wasn't allowed on any beach.
Then on to Penmayne Farm in Rock.

Messack Point | 2022-09-04 | For a change, we went north from St Just In Roseland round to Messack Point for lunch.
Very nice walk slightly spoiled by Scooby Hound trying to eat sheep shit and to play with electric cattle fences.

Straight Point paddle | 2022-08-14 | Beautiful summer's day paddle on a big tide. Out to Straight Point (the marines weren't firing) and watched a couple of seals sunning themselves on the rocks.
Big tides so big average speed!

Carrick Roads and Restronguet Creek | 2019-07-14 | With the promised easterly being more like a southerly, there was a long enough fetch for some waves that weren't to Scooby's liking. So after lunch and some icecreams (which were to Scooby's liking) we diverted into Restronguet Creek for some quiet top-of-the-tide paddling past The Pandora and onto Point. Then back below the rather marvelous Tregunwith Farm campsite (£9 / night for 2 adults, 1 dog, 1 camper van, 1 car and a canoe) and back to Mylor Yacht Harbour.

Exe to Salcombe | 2018-04-21 | A great sail from the Exe down to Salcombe.
Sailed past Simon T and Andy B on Nelly Nui as they prepared for their Round Britain sail.
Met up with them again off Dartmouth and we sailed on together towards Start Point.
We took the inside passage around Start Point and encountered a really heavy rain shower including some very loud and rather too close for comfort thunder and lightening.
After that it was a beautiful evening sailing across Salcombe Bar and onto a mooring followed by a fine dinner ashore.

Morte Point | 2017-10-29 | From Lee Bay along the coast path to Bull Point lighthouse and then on around Morte Point.
Some big up and downie bits along the way and some scary (for me) cliff top paths!
Camera was happy with the sunlight though.

Hartland Quay | 2017-09-20 | A short walk to dinner from Stoke Barton Campsite on Hartland Point.
Hartland Point is a scary place if you think about sailing near it in the wind or fog and the granite "teeth" of the rocks only enhance this.
The Hartland Quay Hotel was a really nice pub doing good food.

Exe to Dartmouth | 2017-07-01 | The plan was to go to Salcombe. However, the weather forecast was out and there was little wind to start with. That and some shennanigans with the cruising chute - that included giving it a wash in the sea - meant we were later than planned heading towards Start Point. Again the forecast was out as we now had 20 knots of wind that would have been against the (admittedly) neap tides after we rounded Start. So we gave up bouncing into waves and headed into Dartmouth / Darthaven for the evening.

Start Point | 2017-06-25 | A short walk to Start Point. Makes a change to walk round it rather than sail round it. There was no "inshore passage" while we were there.
A camper van trip to Slapton for the night.

Straight Point and Exmouth Docks | 2017-05-07 | A sail on Derek's Fulmar down the estuary and then along to Straight Point (the Royal Marines weren't firing at the time). Sailed back alongside Julian's Halmatic 30 - the boats are nicely matched for speed. Then into Exmouth Marina whch was interesting. I'd not been into Exmouth Marina before in anything bigger than a RIB so going in under the lifting bridge in a 30 foot yacht was interesting.

Dartmouth to Plymouth | 2016-06-26 | Starting from Dittisham, a sail round from the Dart to Plymouth on Derek H's Sadler 26. A good sail down towards Start Point. A easy rounding of Start at just before slack water. Then a motor sail from Start to Bolt Tail as the wind was too much on the nose. Then a good sail across Bigbury Bay and into Plymouth Sound (where the visibility dropped down to about a quarter of a mile).

Transat start at Plymouth | 2016-05-02 | From Cawsand to Penlee Point to watch the start of the single handed Transat yacht race. Breakfast at Kingsand and then sat in the drizzly rain at Penlee Point for a couple of hours but the gloop mostly cleared in time for the start of the race. As much fun watching the milling spectator boats as the competitors.

Baggy Point, Putsborough and Croyde | 2016-04-10 | A doggie walk in the howling wind. Round Baggy Point and back to Putsborough and then on to Croyde Bay.
Lots of photos across from Morthoe Farm camping across to Lundy. The wind must have been at least F8 - some impressive overfalls off the headland.
Back via Meldon reservoir so a couple of photos from there.

Sabbacombe Head to Kingswear | 2016-03-14 | From Coleton Fishacre (actually Coleton Camp) down to Sabbacombe Head and then along the coast path past Froward Point and on to near Kingswear. A lot of ups and downs - big ups and downs!

Quick paddle round Cawsand/Kingsand bay | 2015-09-25 | The forecast offshore north to north west turned out to be almost a southerly so there some small waves as we headed off from Cawsand to Fort Picklecombe. So we turned round and went a little way towards Penlee Point. A very short paddle overall but it broke up the drive home at the end of our summer holidays.

Dittisham to QAB Plymouth | 2015-06-21 | Round from Dittisham on the Dart to Queen Annes Battery marina in Plymouth. With the wind forecast to be F4 to F5 from the west and most of the trip being westwards, this was going to be an interesting trip. Start Point planning was spot on - we arrived just at the very last of the flood tide meaning little adverse tide but, more importantly, no wind over tide. So Start Point was a pussy cat. Prawle Point and Bolt Head made up for this though. With wind over tide by then, the seas there were "interesting" as the wind gusted to 22 knots (low end of a force 6). Some of the biggest overfalls I've been through for quite some time! As we got to Bigbury Bay the wind was a better angle and we got to sail rather than the motor sailing we did from just past Start. Into QAB about 8pm.

Dittisham to Plymouth | 2014-06-15 | From Dittisham on the Dart to Quee Anne's Battery marina in Plymouth. Some lovely sailing (especially across Bigbury Bay) but also some motoring due to lack of wind.
The average speed for this passage is partly attributable to the large spring tides that were as favourable as planned.
