Camel paddling 2023-09-14 A paddle into Padstow Harbour and then up Petherick Creek. The creek was interesting but not quite "Helford standard".
Kayak Puncture! 2023-09-09 A second puncture (in a about 4 year's use) in our Sea Eagle 465 inflatable kayak put paid to our kayaking plans for the day. Instead we spent a bit of time on Bar Beach on the Helford avoiding the day's strongest sun. Scooby still doesn't like swimming.

Burgh Island 2023-09-02 Hot and not too windy, so a lovely kayak trip around Burgh Island and then towards Bantham Beach. Scooby loved Bigbury Beach.
Clyst paddling 2023-08-26 A paddle with Marija and Jeremy L up the Clyst as far as the Bridge Inn at Topsham. Quite neapy so not a lot of water at the mouth of the Clyst (even near the top of the tide). Wind was probably the F3 gusting F5 advertised so some good exercise!

Pole Sands Paddling 2023-04-07 First time out in the inflatable kayak this year. A lovely day and a lovely paddle for lunch in the Pole Sands and then a little explore round the far side of the Pole Sands.

Pole Sands paddling 2022-08-27 Down to the Pole Sands with Jeremy and Marija L. Accompanying an SYC dinghy cruise. After we forgot Scooby Hound's tennis ball, Marija very kindly bought him a ball on a rope. Which he promptly destroyed! Followed up with some kayak capsize practise at SYC - capsizing both the Sea Eagle inflatable and the hard shell Triumph 13.

Seaton to Beer Head paddling 2022-08-19 With Marija and Jeremy L for a sea paddle from Seaton Beach out past Beer to Beer Head. Lovely paddle. Unfortunately, our Sea Eagle 485 inflatable kayak sprung a leak in one of the air chambers. Happily it was a slow leak and there are 3 other separate chambers before we would be completely under water!

Down river paddling 2022-08-09 With Nigel H in the inflatable Sea Eagle. Down against some tide and sea breeze to Bull Hill Bank. Then a lovely drift back with the tide and wind. Thanks to Derek H for the drone pics!

Bantham paddling 2022-08-05 A glorious summer's day paddle with Marija and Jeremy L. Up the Avon from Bantham Beach to Aveton Gifford. Even Scooby Hound seemed to be quite content to be on the kayak. The GPX track is fake (so ignore the graph) - the GPS had run out of battery power!

Pole Sands Paddling 2022-07-27 Down from SYC to the Pole Sands. Scooby a very happy dog (when at the Pole Sands). Saw Colin and Averil Y on Dawlish Warren with their inflatable kayak

Up river paddling 2022-01-26 Up river from SYC to Topsham Quay and back via Lympstone. Cold day but plenty warm enough under the drysuit. Absolutely no wind!

Christchurch Harbour paddling 2021-10-23 Back on the water at Christchurch Harbour for the first time in probably 40 years. Learnt to sail at (what was then) the Marine Training Centre (now the Hengistbury Head Outdoor Education Centre), Sailed a Wayfarer and Minisail from Mudeford. This time took the Sea Eagle kayak up from Mudeford to Tuckton Bridge on the Stour and the "The Loop" on the Avon. Seeing the amount of water coming down the Avon, we chickened out of coming back down the right hand side of the loop. Something for another day.

Helford Paddling 2021-07-02 A change to normal by putting the kayak in the water on the south side of the Helford Estuary (at Helford itself). Explored Frenchman's Creek and then up[ almost as far at Bishop's Quay (but ran out of water at neaps). Lunch at Tremayne Quay. Scooby really not keen on enhancing his swimming skills.

Fal Estuary Paddling 2021-07-01 From Mylor Harbour up past King Harry ferry with lunch on Roundwood Quay and Trelissick. Scooby much happier on the inflatable Sea Eagle kayak.

Pole Sands Paddling 2020-06-23 Down to the Pole Sands around a low tide. Back with the wind and the tide. Lovely.

Paddle down to Starcross 2020-06-16 The plan had been to paddle up past Topsham on the rising tide but the wind was a little strong to want to paddle back against it (and the tides were small). So it was a short paddle down to Starcross and the a float back with the wind and the tide.

SYC to Cockwood harbour 2020-06-01 A lovely sunny summer's afternoon. Paddled down to Cockwood against the light wind and small tide and then had a "free ride" back with the tide and wind.

Topsham paddling 2020-05-25 After dropping off Derek H's tender on his mooring we headed up towards Topsham in the new kayak. We passed Derek coming down in his Fulmar - having just launched from Topsham Quay.

Dawlish Warren Kayaking 2020-05-20 First time down to Dawlish Warren in the new Sea Eagle kayak. Lovely day - there was plenty of mist that came and went but that didn't detract from it. Good test for the new kayak and I'm very pleased with it. Less pleased that the GPS ran out of battery on the way back. Whoops.

Return to the Exe 2020-05-15 First time back on the Exe Estuary after many, many months. First trip out on our new inflatable kayak - a Sea Eagle 465 FastTrack. Overall - very pleased with it.

Out to sea to avoid the World Cup 2010-06-27 Im not a great footie fan. In fact even though the Wayfarer had somewhat of a leak a solo sail to off Dawlish seemed like the best way of avoiding the match Unsurprisingly the 7.7 knots max boat speed was just off the Warren

Up river kayaking 2021-08-28 A solo paddle up to Topsham Quay. Abandoned by the wife - some excuse about having to work. "Rescued" a fishing boat that had run aground by taking their kedge anchor out to deeper water so they could pull themselves off the mud. Had a look at the abandoned & rotting boats by Lympstone Commando.

Liz's first safety boat drive 2018-08-25 Liz's first safety boat drive since getting her "Power Boat 2" training. An out to sea dinghy cruise - out as far as the fairway buoy anyway.

Dawlish Air Show Dinghy Cruise 2014-08-23 "Officer of the day" and safety boat duty on an out to sea dinghy cruise that coincided with the Dawlish Air Show. A few dramas a long the way but saw the Red Arrows and, later, the battle of Britain memorial flight (including two Lancasters, a Spitfire and a Hurricane).

Sail on Nigel's Dart 2014-08-18 A decent wind (gusting maybe F5) for a storming sail on Nigel's Dart. Some excellent speeds with a top speed of over 17 knots - probably the fastest I've been under sail. Top stuff

Darting about in light winds 2014-07-21 Down river and out to sea (a little bit) on Nigel's Dart. Light, and sometimes non-existent, winds suggested that venturing too far on an outgoing tide might be a problem. Interesting tacking back up the estuary against the ebb tide - couldn't do that in the Wayfarer.

Sail on Nigel's Dart 2014-07-14 Beach cafe and just a bit beyond on Nigel's Dart 18. A day of lulls and gusts. A max speed of 14.6 knots is just a bit faster than I'm used to with my Wayfarer

Out to sea dinghy cruise 2014-05-31 An SYC dinghy cruise out to sea that actually made it out to sea! It looked as though there would be no wind at all for quite a while but gentle F2 / F3 filled in for most of the time.

Out to sea dinghy cruise 2012-09-01 Safety boat duty on an out to sea cruise. Big tides and light winds.

Day sail instead of Newport Trophy 2012-06-23 A breezy sail into a southerly F5 wind while taking advantage of a gap between the high winds. Tried out sailing with a sea anchor for the first time. A slightly nervous wait for the tide to rise enough to get back in to the Exe while hoping that a forecast force 8 would only come in later as per the forecast.
