| Pendower Beach | 2022-09-05 | A walk from Portscatho round to Pendower Beach.
In his eagerness to eat a Shetland pony, the bloody dog pulled me backwards arse over tit down into gorse scrub leaving me stung, bleeding, pissed off and with a twisted back. Landed on my head and rucksack (as the photos show).
At this point, we are still not talking!
Walk back was in heavy rain, thunder and lightening.

| Messack Point | 2022-09-04 | For a change, we went north from St Just In Roseland round to Messack Point for lunch.
Very nice walk slightly spoiled by Scooby Hound trying to eat sheep shit and to play with electric cattle fences.

| Morthoe walk | 2022-09-18 | A slightly new take on an old favourite walk around Morthoe.
A long walk for us - especially given the slightly fearsome uppy/downy bits on the coast path.
The final climb to Morte Point was just as super-scary as I remembered it.

| Woolacombe Beach | 2022-09-17 | We couldn't come to north Devon without giving Scooby Hound his walk on Woolacombe Beach.
However, because he is an old boy, we have to reduce the amount of time he gets to spend haring around after the ball on the beach. So the outward leg was along Marine Drive rather than the beach.

| Tintagel and Bossiney | 2022-09-14 | First time we've seen what English "Heritage" have done to Tintagel with their new bridge.
To be fair, its a nice bridge - if it wasn't buggering up the view at Tintagel.
The round a couple of headlands until Scooby Hound claimed to have a poorly paw. So we too a short cut long the roads back to Tintagel.

| Heligan Gardens - again | 2022-09-02 | Round some scabby gardens that someone lost apparently. You can probably tell I was a little underwhelmed by The Lost Gardens Of Heligan. Probably gardening sacrilege to say so. Liz on the other hand loved them. Scooby mostly enthusiastic. Nice cider from the farm shop though.
Not cheap either - but happily not at Eden Project pricing levels of mickey taking.
Heligan Caravan And Camping Park is nice - and you get a discount for the Gardens which are right next door.

| Soggy Padstow | 2022-09-13 | Back to Padstow on the Rock ferry.
Another very soggy day but we felt we ought to make the effort to get out and about a little bit.
Scooby Hound grateful for beach run-arounds on Rock Beach and Lower Beach at Padstow. He didn't like the town much (getting trod on twice).
On reflection, we missed a trick not going out for a paddle around low tide on the Camel. There's enough at the lower end of the estuary to make it an interesting paddle at low tide.

| Boscastle | 2022-09-15 | A cliff walk from Trewethett Farm campsite to Boscastle.
Then up from Boscastle through the old village and to the top of the overlooking hills. Felt a lot more that the 215 metres shown on the elevation graph.
Back via St Nectan's Waterfall (without paying to see them).
If doing this walk again, reminder to self to wear long trousers as a fair bit of the paths were overgrown with nettles.

| Polzeath, Pentire Point and The Rumps | 2022-09-12 | After much swearing at Polzeath at the start of the walk for a failure to provide dog bins or to mark the coastpath (given they don't allow dogs on beaches), it turned into a lovely walk.
Out to Pentire Point and then along to The Rumps (and ancient Brits cost fort).
Quite scary - but not super scary - along the cliff top at time.
Scooby Hound sad he wasn't allowed on any beach.
Then on to Penmayne Farm in Rock.

| Perranporth | 2022-09-11 | Well - we couldn't go to north Cornwall without taking Scooby Hound to Perranporth (his 2nd all time favourite beach after Woolacombe).
Although he doesn't know it, he's getting on a bit now so for the first time ever we rationed him to only half the length of Perranporth beach. Still a happy hound.
Some strange sort of "surf kayak" event going on.

| Treen Campsite | 2022-09-08 | So after nearly a week of good exercise, it was so rainy today we hibernated at Treen Campsite.
The predicted "weather window" at 5pm did happen and we got an hour without rain to visit the Logan Rock pub.
The "gatekeeper" (or maitre d) at the pub is someone's grumpy granny. We'd have walked out but there are no other pubs within walking distance. Nice pint of Rattler though.

Camping back in our favourite field. Walk into Kingsand & Cawsand. Scooby nearly lost his ball but was very brave & eventually retrieved it. Pint in the old Cawsand Bay Hotel area - now called "The Bar." Watched Rame Gig go out & some unusual fishing boats moored in the bay.

Gwenapp Head is so much more inspiring than Lands End. Spotted some Cornish Choughs eating cow shit. Back through fields of sweetcorn higher than either of us.
And then down to Porthcurno Beach with an ice cream. Felt very odd / disloyal without Scooby Hound.

| Porthleven to Rinsey Head | 2024-09-15 | A fairly strenuous walk from Porthleven to Rinsey Head and back inland.
The coast path from Porthleven to Rinsey Head had lots of up and downy bits. We fancied making it a circular walk rather than an "out and back" one so we used the Ordnance Survey 1:25000 maps to find footpaths inland for the way back. Some not well marked, some through fields with cows and some that looked a little too much like adder territory.
Still - a good walk and some exercise!

| Treen to Lamorna | 2024-09-17 | A quite tough coast path walk from Treen via Penberth Cove and Tater Du lighthouse to Lamorna Cove.
Lots of up and downy bits, some muddy bits, some very muddy bits and some scary as fxxk edge of cliff bits. So something for everyone really unless you want easy field walking.
But the drama was watching a racing yacht running under full sails downwind a couple of hundred metres inside the Runnel Stone south cardinal at low tide and towards the breaking water. Looked again 2 minutes later and he was dropping all sails and clearly on the rocks. Rang the coastguard who, as expected, had already been informed (probably by Gwenapp Head Coast Watch).
The coastguard said that Sennen RNLI had been tasked so we watched them arrive. Their offshore boat couldn't get too close because of the rocks so the launched their rib. We think they may have taken the sole (?) sailor off and then they waited until the yacht floated off the rocks after high tide. Not too sure what happened to the yacht after that!

Another top Northumbrian beach according to Scooby hound.
The beach was pretty much deserted.
May be that was due to the warning signs about unexploded ordnance and areas of quicksand?
We took the view that that was just the locals trying to keep the grockles from their favourite beach (is grockle the correct term up north?).

The GPS looks as though it went a little crazy while we were in The Sun in Walkworth - that's understandable as the decor is really something. A heatwave hit (for one day) and we went along Lllanddwyn Bay with the mountains on Snowdonia in the misty background.
On this day, with the heatwave, it was as good as any beach either Liz or I had wandered along anywhere in the world. And it was on Anglesey!
Skipping on past most of Ynys LLanddwyn island (dog ban until end of September) we wandered on a little to the next huge bay.
Wow!

| Trewithian too Merrose Camp Site | 2025-09-10 | Bit of an odd one. After walking from St Mawes to St Just along the west side of the Roseland Peninsula, the idea was to catch a bus across the peninsula to Porthscatho and then walk the coast path back to Merrose camp site near Trewithian.
However, the road down to Portscatho was blocked so the bus driver dropped us off on the A3078 about a mile away.
After noodling across some fields, we reached the coast path near Porthbean Beach and then turned round and walked back to the campsite,

| Porthleven - drinking and dining | 2023-09-10 | Stayed at the rather nice and basic Treza Camping.
Then down into Porthleven for a pint or two and some food.
Saw Trudy and Colin from Llantwit at the Harbour Inn and then visited the very nice Ship Inn.
Find of the evening was The Mussel Shoal where we had truly excellent fish and chips (and another cider).

| Pityme pub walk | 2021-09-19 | To the village of Pityme for a pint.
Scooby demanded a bit more of a walk of his "restrictions" on Perranporth.
The OS 1:25000 maps on the GPS found a "shortcut" through some fields of corn - came out right by Sharps Brewery (of Doom Bar beer fame - not that either of us drink beer).

| Lamorna Cove and Tater-du Light | 2017-09-15 | The coast path from Lamorna Cove was marked as a bit "iffy" so we made our own route inland and then joining back with the main coastal path. Past the gloriously named Tater-du lighthouse. Unfortunately, the path we'd spotted on the map to come back via had a big PRIVATE sign on it so we ended up doing an "out and back" walk.

| St Mawes to St Just In Roseland | 2025-09-10 | Caught the bus from Merrose Farm Campsite down to St Mawes. Scooby Hound a bit unsure about the bus to start with.
As forecast, the weather gradually got less rainy the closer we got to St Just on our walk.
Rather good lunch at Renwicks Cafe above the church at St Just

| Kayak Puncture! | 2023-09-09 | A second puncture (in a about 4 year's use) in our Sea Eagle 465 inflatable kayak put paid to our kayaking plans for the day.
Instead we spent a bit of time on Bar Beach on the Helford avoiding the day's strongest sun. Scooby still doesn't like swimming.

| Perranporth for Scooby Hound | 2021-09-19 | Scooby Hound would have the sulks for weeks if he found at we'd been to Cornwall an not given him a low tide walk at Perranporth.
Sccoby's knocking on a bit but would still run until he drops - it's just that he'd drop a bit earlier these days so the "ball action" has to be rationed a little bit.

| Hartland Quay | 2017-09-20 | A short walk to dinner from Stoke Barton Campsite on Hartland Point.
Hartland Point is a scary place if you think about sailing near it in the wind or fog and the granite "teeth" of the rocks only enhance this.
The Hartland Quay Hotel was a really nice pub doing good food.

| Woolacombe and Putsborough | 2017-09-22 | Scooby wouldnt have been happy if we'd come to north Devon and not given him a run along Woolacombe Beach at low tide. In a fairly wet and windy two week holiday, this was the only walk where we actually got soaked by the rain. However, we dried out a bit in the cafe at Putsborough and then the walk back in the wind meant that we were dry by the time we got back to the camper van on Marine Drive.
The photos include a couple from North Morte campsite looking at the sunset over Lundy Island.

| Saunton Sands and Burrows | 2017-09-23 | Scooby's final beach walk of the holiday. Along the seemingly endless Saunton Sands at low tide. Then back inland to the east of the Burrows before finally cutting across the Burrows to give Scooby a final bit of of beach action before an ice cream at Saunton Sands.

| Carlyon Bay to Charlestown | 2025-09-08 | From the Carlyon Bay Camping Park along the coast path to Charlestown.
I think Charlestown was looking a little sad. There was some work started on changes to the harbour but is was closed (part from a large Border Force rib stooging about).
Pretty good fish and chips on the harbour at Charlestown and then back along the coast path.
Carlyon Bay Camping Park is expensive but rather good.

| Gorran Haven | 2023-09-07 | Was meant to be a walk around Dodman Point but we got up too late and it was just too hot for an elderly, black doggie!
So down to the rather lovely Gorran Haven and then back via Vault Beach.

| Helford River | 2018-09-06 | A short walk down to one of our favourite canoeing spots on the Helford - without a canoe this time.
This is where Scooby previously learnt to swim just for the fun of it so Liz was keen to take him back for another paddle.

| Logan Rock and Penberth Cove | 2018-09-07 | On to one of our favourite campsites - Treen (just near the Minack Theatre and Lands End).
Photos are from the "nature ramble" that Liz went on - organised by the Treen pirate. Photos of Scooby at Penberth Cove are by Liz as the nature ramble also went that way.

| Gwenapp Head | 2018-09-08 | Another new take on a favourite walk. From Treen, via St Levans, Porthgwarra and on to Gwenapp Head (just along from Lands End and happily not touched by the awful tat at Lands End).
We could see the rain showers getting blown in from the Atlantic - but as they were mostly horizontal it was possible to keep mostly dry by sheltering behind lumps of granite.

| Pendeen and Portheras Cove | 2018-09-09 | A new walk to Pendeen Lighthouse and the stunning Porteras Cove which we'd not been to before.
Took a wrong turn down to the "Boat Cove" and then took a little while to figure out how to actually get to Portheras Cove (it's via a path high above the cove and then down to the beach on the eastern end).
