First Wayfarer sail in a long, long time

Back in the Wayfarer for for the first time this year! A free sailing day at SYC. Back and forth across the estuary for a couple of hours checking that the boat is still properly seaworthy. No breakages and a lovely stea…

Gusty Wayfarer sail

Out of the lee of the land, the wind was the predicted F4 gusting F6. Not really ideal of Liz!

Gusty Wayfarer sail

With Malcolm B for a blustery sail in the Wayfarer on the Exe. The Met Office forecast was F4 gusting F6 and, for once, that is what we got when out of the lee of the land. Good fun but made trickier by the frequent lull…

Down river Wayfarer sail

Down to the beach cafe with Malcolm B. From some wind to no wind (and paddling). When the wind was there it couldn't decide whether it wanted to come from the north or the south!

Wayfarer sailing

A free sailing event at SYC. About F3 to F4 but quite cold and overcast. Turned the Wayfarer over to check its buoyancy and to have a look at the centreboard (which seems to still be in quite good condition).

First Wayfarer outing of 2024

A late start to this year's Wayfarer sailing but quite a good one. Mostly F4 so one reef in the main and then backwards and forwards across the estuary umpteen times to get the a feel for the boat again.

Back in the Wayfarer

Back in the Wayfarer after an awfully long time. Very little wind but at least we were able to get out and check that we'd found all the right bits and the boat didn't sink.

Wayfarer sail

A bit curtailed as we could only really sail on one tack! The bench that the starboard genoa car was attached to pulled away from the thwart as the fibreglass had shattered around the bolt/wingnut. So we sailied around u…

Gusty Wayfarer sail

Force 3 gusting force 4. One reef. Nice sail to nowhere in particular.

First Wayfarer drift of 2021

Not much wind for the first outing in the Wayfarer in 2021. Liz helmed for much of the time - yay! Winch demo at 12:00 so we came in just as the wind was building a little.

Shortest sail ever!

Quite gusty winds on top of a F4. Liz didn't like it much so we came back after getting to buoy 27. Liz claims it is the early arrival of Hurricane Bertha...

Wayfarer Sail

A quick sail round the estuary on an SYC race day to check that everything still works on the boat after a few months off the water. Out with one reef as the the weather forecast had a F6 in it. Wind was a bit gusty but…

Second Wayfarer sail of the year

A short sail in the Wayfarer. Sail somewhat shortened as replacing the forestay with a new one took longer than expected - the mousing line was shorter than the mast so we ended up with no stay or mousing line in the mas…

First Wayfarer sail of 2017

First time out in the Wayfarer this year. A very gentle sail and then a drift back down with the tide as the wind died away as forecast. Some noisy scroat was scaring up the birds in a hovercraft between the Clyst and th…

Estuary sailing in the Wayfarer

A near enough perfect spring breeze made for an ideal morning's sailing on the Exe Estuary. Maybe 12 to 14 knots of steady south to south easterly wind made for a great morning's sailing in the Wayfarer with Liz's brothe…

Motor - drift - motor

First time back on the water in the Wayfarer for a very long time. Absolutely no wind! So stuck the outboard on the back of the Wayfarer for the first time in umpteen years and, amazingly, it worked. Motored up to buoy 2…

October beach cafe sail

Good winds and big tides for a late season sail from SYC down to the beach cafe. Some excellent winds round the Warren and the Docks. Died away a little bit for the last mile back to SYC.

Up river sail

A very pleasant up river sail as far as Topsham Sailing Club. Between F2 and F4 in the estuary but died away to very little when going up the estuary. With the tide having turned, we didn't get much furtehr than TSC.

Out to sea dinghy cruise

An SYC dinghy cruise out to sea that actually made it out to sea! It looked as though there would be no wind at all for quite a while but gentle F2 / F3 filled in for most of the time.
