- Description
-
An interesting (and a little challenging) sail down from Topsham to Salcombe in Derek H's Westerly Fulmar - Thalmia.

Accompanied by Peter S in his Sadler 26, the trip down past Brixham was fairly fast with reasonable winds (reaching 18 to 20 knots - F4 to F5).

However, just past Dartmouth with one reef in the main and two in the genoa we were hit by two intense squalls which saw the wind rising to 38+ knots a couple of times (i.e. mid force 8). Thalmia stood up to it admirably.

It was at this point - or "off Colleton Fishacre" as Liz recounted it - that Liz lost track of us on Google location sharing as the phones and the hand held VHF were put in the oven (believed to be a good Faraday Cage) as there was thunder and lightening immediately above us.

Then round Start Point quite a long way off. Start was fine but the run down past Prawle Point saw 2m to 3m waves due to wind against the remaining tide (but all pretty regular and not too "short"). Picked up a visitors mooring off Salcombe town and had a beer!
