You'd think after 5 weeks in Orkney and Shetland we'd have had enough "seal spotting" but a stop off at Newburgh Seal Beach proved otherwise. Hundreds of them hauled out on the beach for a rest at the entrance to the Riv…
Watched a seal breakfasting on a fish.
Just about a perfect sunny October paddle on the Exe Estuary. Had a close encounter with a seal who seemed to want the bit of sand I was sitting on while having my lunch.
Down to the Beach Cafe with Malcolm B in the Wayfarer. Gusty on the way down - a lovely tacking sail on the way back.
A paddle along the Fal estuary. Down from Loe beach round the Flushing. Almost ideal weather - light winds and tide with us on the way back.
A sail in Malcom B's RS Vision down to the Beach Cafe (which is still there several years after Exmouth Council said it had to close). Thought there would be no wind but there was a rather nice F3 for most of the sail.
A drift up and won the Exe estuary to the Beach Cafe on Nigel H's Dart 18. A little bit of wind occasionally.
Another wonderful beach for Scoby Hound, This time it was the Eoropie Beach right at the north end of Lewis. Then on to the Butt of Lewis lighthouse. The most norrth westerly point of somewhere or other. Also in the Gu…
Had another free day's parking on the extornionate £6 Lands End parking fee. Walked to Sennen and saw lots of yachts doing the "inshore passage" round Lands' End. On to Gwynver beach (because Scooby asked). Ice creams at…
Safety boat for the Jim Vallis Memorial dinghy cruise. Down to beach cafe. Wind between about F1 and F4.
SYC dinghy cruise down to the beach cafe. Slightly stronger winds than forecast - about F4 much of the time - and a big 4.4 metre tide resulted in a top speed of 9.4 knots. Not bad for a 40 year old Wayfarer but we still…
"Officer of the day" and safety boat driver for a down river dinghy cruise from SYC. The slightly dodgy forecast ended up being fine and a good sail was had by all.
Stayed at Penhale camp site near Fowey. A short walk to Polkerris Beach where we knew that dogs were banned but didn't know that the ice cream shop would shut up shop at half four - outrageous!
Another new take on a favourite walk. From Treen, via St Levans, Porthgwarra and on to Gwenapp Head (just along from Lands End and happily not touched by the awful tat at Lands End). We could see the rain showers getting…
An excellent dinghy cruise. A steady F3 most of the time. Lunch at the beach cafe and then out as far as the fairway buoy. Pretty slow tacking out from the beach cafe to Maer Rocks as a lightish wind and the tide was now…
Walked Scooby Hound along the seafront at Teignmouth and along to Holcombe. Then back inland to Teignmouth for lunch at the View and a bit of ball action for Scooby on the back beach.
Liz's first safety boat drive since getting her "Power Boat 2" training. An out to sea dinghy cruise - out as far as the fairway buoy anyway.
A lovely sail from SYC down to the Exmouth beach. Glorious sunshine and quite a strong sea breeze to start with.
SYC dinghy cruise to the beach cafe. Great winds and plenty of sun! Heading towards Springs so plenty of tide so quite a fast speed over the ground going past the Warren.
First down river dinghy cruise of the 2018 SYC programme. Next to no wind most of the time but a pleasant drift in bigish tides. Beach cafe toasties as good as usual.
"Officer of the day" (an OOD) for a dinghy cruise at SYC. Started out with absolutely no wind - to the point where it was doubtful whether the cruise could go ahead. But the wind filled in just in time and continued to r…
A paddle down from SYC to the beach cafe with Marija and Jeremy L. Very pleasant paddle around the low tide. Strangely, a very foggy day for some of it. Passed Nigel H's "office" on the way back and then Nellynui once la…
Down from SYC for an ice cream at the Beach Cafe. in Malcom B's RS Vision.
An excellent sandy beach to let Tye off the lead for a little bit. Then on round the headland. Couldn't really go to Fugla Ness lighthouse and there was a bouldery section that wouldn't have been great for Tye's spindly…
Yet another stunning walk. This time across the tombolo beach between the land ansd St Ninian's Isle. Only such sandy "tombolo" beach in the UK apparently. Then a stomp around St Ninian's Isle with dramatic rocks and isl…
Lovely paddle on a stonkingly hot July day. Down river with the tide but against the F3 sea breeze that came it. Lunch on the last "island" at the end of the Pole Sands. Then back with the tide and the sea breeze via the…
Too little wind to go sailing so Malcolm B and I headed down river in the Sea Eagle kayak
Down to the Beach Cafe in the Wayfarer with Malcolm. Quite big tides and quite variable winds. Good sail overall.
Down to the beach cafe with Malcolm B. From some wind to no wind (and paddling). When the wind was there it couldn't decide whether it wanted to come from the north or the south!
A second puncture (in a about 4 year's use) in our Sea Eagle 465 inflatable kayak put paid to our kayaking plans for the day. Instead we spent a bit of time on Bar Beach on the Helford avoiding the day's strongest sun. S…
