Exe to Dartmouth 2013-06-08 An SYC cruiser race from the Exe Safe Water Mark to the entrance of the Dart at Dartmouth. Then up to Dittisham for the night moored up on a visitors buoy. I think I need a new GPS with a bit more memory as the start of this GPS track seems to have been lost as the available memory was overwritten by the next days sail down to Plymouth.
Dartmouth to Plymouth sail 2013-06-09 A great sail in Dereks Sadler 26 from Dittisham on the Dart to QAB marina at Plymouth. Lovely strength winds but a lot from straight behind Wind strength better than forecast. Seas a bit rolly at times but not too bad at Start Point as we were there at slack water.
Luskentyre Sands - a new favourite 2022-05-14 Scooby Hound in love with the beach at Luskentyre Sands on Harris. Miles and miles of pristine sand with views across to Taransay.
West Parley visit 2021-10-22 Camper vanning in West Parley for a meet up with old school friends. Went for a walk down Church Lane past the Multiple Sclerosis day centre and then on to the River Stour. Lots of Whiteley family memories / connections.
Eype, West Bay and Bridport 2018-04-16 From Eype over high (Jurassic) cliffs to West Bay. About a F4 but southerly so entering West Bay harbour by boat would have been problematic - and a bit bouncy one inside on the outer pontoons. Then up by the Birt River to Bridport. Not sure why the usually excellent South West Coastpath web site (https://www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk/) recommended going into Bridport - just some muddy fields and a housing estate!

Commodore's Cruise 2015-07-04 Standing in for Paul K as "officer of the day" and safety boat driver for the Commodore's Cruise. Forecast was F4 gusting F5 but with the wind from the SW a sea breeze could have taken the gusts to F6.On the water by the club we saw F5 gusts so we decided to turn the cruise into a short "free sailing" near the club. Don't think too many people minded. Followed by strawberries and cream on the grass in front of the club house.
Dinghy Cruise OOD and safety boat 2019-06-15 "Officer of the day" and safety boat driver for a down river dinghy cruise from SYC. The slightly dodgy forecast ended up being fine and a good sail was had by all.
Liz's first safety boat drive 2018-08-25 Liz's first safety boat drive since getting her "Power Boat 2" training. An out to sea dinghy cruise - out as far as the fairway buoy anyway.
SYC dinghy cruise 2018-04-28 First down river dinghy cruise of the 2018 SYC programme. Next to no wind most of the time but a pleasant drift in bigish tides. Beach cafe toasties as good as usual.
First drift of the year 2018-04-07 Sailed up towards the Turf and then rowed most of the way back. Not the F3 promised.
Up to buoy 45 2017-08-19 Quite a "feisty" sail as the weather did pretty much what was forecast - which was F4 gusting F5. They were fairly big gusts on the way out. Ran aground near the Turf Locks - whoops - and mutinous crew made the captain get out and push us off.
Commodore's Cruise 2017-07-29 The weather forecast was rubbish - no winds and heavy rain. Turned out to be a nice wind and only occasional rain.
SYC Mystery Dinghy Cruise 2016-07-13 "Officer Of The Day" for the SYC "mystery dinghy cruise". What the mystery was to be was, er, a mystery to us. So we decided that it would be cricket and drinkies on the Bull Sands in the middle of the Exe Estuary at low water. F4 gusting F5 a fair bit of the time but it seems a good time was had by all.
Up river dinghy cruise 2016-07-02 An up river dinghy cruise. The weather forecast was about right with its F4 gusting F5. The "fleet" got spread out quite a bit and, as the weather wasn't great, we headed back to the club quite early. The camera was on the wrong settings when the photos were taken so they've been over HDR'd to see if they can be made slightly interesting.
October dinghy cruise 2015-10-10 An iffy weather forecast (F4 gusting F5 with occasional F6) didn't tie up with the conditions at the start time so we went out with one reef. In the end, it turned out to be a lovely sail.
Dawlish air show dinghy cruise 2015-08-22 "Officer of the day" for the Dawlish air show dinghy cruise. A good day out even though not everything went to plan. The thunder and lightening was a bit of a surprise and curtailed the "out to sea" bit of the dinghy cruise a bit early and stopped the later parts of the show from happening e.g. the Red Arrows. The Vulcan bomber on its last ever visit to the Dawlish show was very impressive. All in all a very good day out!
A perfect summers sail 2012-07-22 With the first spell of decent weather this summer the dinghy cruise down to the Beach Cafe and back had an excellent F3 southerly sea breeze and lots of sunshine. Marvellous. All the best photos courtesy of Lizs brother Julian.
Pole Sands picnic 2014-10-25 A late October down river dinghy cruise. Destination was the Pole Sands for a picnic. Bit late in the season for a picnic but the planned trip earlier in the year didn't work out. Lovely sail - decent range of winds. Big tides assisted the top speed of 9.2 knots.
Dawlish Air Show Dinghy Cruise 2014-08-23 "Officer of the day" and safety boat duty on an out to sea dinghy cruise that coincided with the Dawlish Air Show. A few dramas a long the way but saw the Red Arrows and, later, the battle of Britain memorial flight (including two Lancasters, a Spitfire and a Hurricane).
Commodore's Cruise 2014-07-12 Strawberries and cream on the Warren
Out to sea dinghy cruise 2014-05-31 An SYC dinghy cruise out to sea that actually made it out to sea! It looked as though there would be no wind at all for quite a while but gentle F2 / F3 filled in for most of the time.
Sunny beach cafe safety boat duty 2014-05-17 A lovely sunny May sail down to the beach cafe and back. Light winds but just enough.
Dinghy sail to Dawlish 2013-08-10 Down from SYC, to the fairway buoy and on to the little harbour at the far end of Dawlish.
Commodores Cruise 2013-07-06 Strawberries and cream at the Warren. Glorious weather. Liz doing safety boat driving.
First dinghy cruise of 2013 2013-04-20 On safety boat duty for the first SYC dinghy cruise event of 2013. Lovely weather and a good wind but not much water on the neap tide. Upriver to the Goat Walk at Topsham.
More rowing than sailing 2012-10-20 The last SYC dinghy cruise of the year. Varied between next to no wind and no wind at all. Rowed about two thirds of the way. Lovely morning to be on the estuary though.
Plymouth Sound with SYC 2012-09-22 With SYC on Plymouth Sound out of Mount Batten Sailing Centre. A bit windy for Liz on the Saturday so we went out on the safety boat taking piccies. GPS still on when we landed and went to the cafe - whoops. Sunday was a F7 blow out.
Down river dinghy cruise 2012-09-15 Down to the beach cafe and back. Very light winds most of the time but the sun was shining.
Out to sea dinghy cruise 2012-09-01 Safety boat duty on an out to sea cruise. Big tides and light winds.
