St Teath 2024-09-18 Dinner at The White Hart in St Teath. Nice enough pub with decent food.
Coffee at Sennen 2024-09-18 Coffee at Sennen Cove. Very odd without the hound. Called in at the lifeboat station to see if there was news of what happened to the yacht that hit the Runnel Stone yesterday. There wasn't!
Port Quin to Port Issac 2024-09-19 So the walking guide said there would be sections of the walk from Port Quin to Port Issac that would be unfenced vertical drops. I was hoping that they'd be towards the end where it would be too much effort to turn around. But they were right from the start. I like my coast paths to have a wall or a field or preferably both between me and instant death. Not about one foot and then oblivion. So we turned round and tried an alternate root. But that didn't work out either so we retraced our steps and took the inland root. Port Issac nice enough in an "overrun by tourists with a Doc Martin fetish" sort of way. No complaints about the pasty or ice cream though.
Porthcurno, Porthwarra and Gwenapp Head 2024-09-16 Slight variations on an old walk. The cafe at Porthgwarra is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays - damn! Gwenapp Head is so much more inspiring than Lands End. Spotted some Cornish Choughs eating cow shit. Back through fields of sweetcorn higher than either of us. And then down to Porthcurno Beach with an ice cream. Felt very odd / disloyal without Scooby Hound.
Helford to Gweek paddle 2024-09-13 Launched the Sea Eagle inflatable kayak at Helford and paddled up past the Seal Sanctuary to Gweek Boatyard. Which was a surprise as I didn't think, at the start, that either of us fancied paddling that much. Lunch at Tremayne Quay as usual.
Mylor and Flushing 2024-09-12 An old favourite. From Tregunwith Farm to Mylor Bridge, on to Mylor Harbour and then along the estuary to Flushing. Some sun, some rain and an icecream.
Trellisick Gardens 2024-09-11 Scooby Hound died at 05:00 in the morning at St Columb Major. We got to Trellisick shortly after the sun came up and did one of his favourite walks to pass the time until our next campsite opened.
Treen to Lamorna 2024-09-17 A quite tough coast path walk from Treen via Penberth Cove and Tater Du lighthouse to Lamorna Cove. Lots of up and downy bits, some muddy bits, some very muddy bits and some scary as fxxk edge of cliff bits. So something for everyone really unless you want easy field walking. But the drama was watching a racing yacht running under full sails downwind a couple of hundred metres inside the Runnel Stone south cardinal at low tide and towards the breaking water. Looked again 2 minutes later and he was dropping all sails and clearly on the rocks. Rang the coastguard who, as expected, had already been informed (probably by Gwenapp Head Coast Watch). The coastguard said that Sennen RNLI had been tasked so we watched them arrive. Their offshore boat couldn't get too close because of the rocks so the launched their rib. We think they may have taken the sole (?) sailor off and then they waited until the yacht floated off the rocks after high tide. Not too sure what happened to the yacht after that!
Pandorra Inn 2024-09-11 Our silver wedding anniversary meal at the Pandorra Inn on Restronguet Creek. In fact, it was a very sad day as we'd lost Scooby Hound at 05:00 that morning.
Gorran Haven 2024-09-09 A quick beach walk for Scooby Hound. He loved it. Lots of hole digging in the sand and trotting along the beach. Sadly, it was to be his very last beach visit but he looks so happy and bouncy in the photos! Within 36 hours Scooby would be gone....
Porthleven to Rinsey Head 2024-09-15 A fairly strenuous walk from Porthleven to Rinsey Head and back inland. The coast path from Porthleven to Rinsey Head had lots of up and downy bits. We fancied making it a circular walk rather than an "out and back" one so we used the Ordnance Survey 1:25000 maps to find footpaths inland for the way back. Some not well marked, some through fields with cows and some that looked a little too much like adder territory. Still - a good walk and some exercise!
Polruan and Fowey 2024-09-08 A second rather soggy day at Polruan Holidays campsite in the campervan. Rain (mostly) stopped long enough for us to get across to Fowey for a pastie, an ice cream and a moan about the crowds.
The Lizard 2024-09-14 A lovely walk round the end of the Lizard peninsula. We'd done a similar walk before on a dreek day and been disappointed. Today in the sun and breeze it was a completely different walk. A highlight was visiting the rather stunning RNLI station on the east side if the Lizard at Church Cove. Roskilly's ice cream at Lizard Point and then a rather good pasty back at the village. Then on to the campsite at Porthleven.
Exe to Salcombe 2024-07-14 A lovely sail down from the Exe to Salcombe on David K's trimaran Triskelle ahead of sailing across to Roscoff in Brittany. Spent the next day on a mooring buoy off Salcombe Yacht Club making a few preparations ahead of the cross channel sail (mainly around setting up the AIS aerial and receiver).
Camaret to Brest 2024-07-25 Across from Camaret to Brest. The weatehr was mizzly and murky with visibility of about a mile. As it was light winds and only about 8 miles, we motored across the south side of the Goulet De Brest. Brest is still a naval port and we caught glimpses of Napoleonic fortifications as well as U Boat pens (still in use by the French navy I believe). Moored up in the Port Du Chateau marina which is huge.
L'Aber Wrac'h to Camaret 2024-07-23 We had to wait in L'Aber Wrac'h for four days until we got a weather window where there wouldn't be wind against tide in the Chenal Du Four. With the tide turning earlier in the St Mathieu narrows than higher up by L'Aber Wrac'h, that meant "punching" the tide for the first hour and a half. Going down the Chenal Du Four was fine as we had light mostly westerly winds. Even though it was (an average) Springs, the speed of the current wasn't greater than, say, the Exe ebb. We encountered a few hundred metres of turbulent water just south of St Mathieu narrows. Then on to the rather lovely Camaret Sur Mer.
Salcombe to Roscoff 2024-07-16 A sail across from Salcombe to Roscoff in Brittany on David K's trimaran Triskelle. We had been planning to leave to 4am but at 3am Prawle Point NCI were recording F7 winds. We waited an hour and the winds started to drop as forecast so we set off at 5am. We were double reefed to start with with F5 / F6 winds for a while. They soon came down to the forecast F4 / F5 and we had a splendid beam reach. About two thirds the way across the wind dropped to about F3 / F4 (again as forecast). So, all in all, a good fast sail across and we made Roscoff about 2 hours ahead of planned. Many of the accompanying photos are of Roscoff and taken the next day.
Salcombe back to the Exe 2024-08-14 And, finally, back to the Exe from Salcombe. The forecast wasn't too promising with northerly winds so we expected a lot of tacking. It was slow for quite a while after we rounded Start Point - from there to Berry Head seemed to take an age. We idled away the time crossing Torbay watching three large ships in a row come into the bay to take on pilots. As we passed the Ore Stone the wind freed up and we had a lovely sail straight up to the Exe SWM. We arrived an hour before low water but as it was so neapy we progressed up channel to just past the floating cafe where we picked up a spare mooring for an hour waiting for enough tide rise to make it onto Triskelle's mooring
Roscoff to Salcombe 2024-08-13 The long trip back from Roscoff to Salcombe. Bit of everything really. I'm not mad keen on dead runs and suspect trimarans aren't either. But the first 40 miles were goose winged (with the first 15 or so having a little motor assist). Triskelle isn't one of those multihulls who bamboozle normal folk by tacking downwind. After some adjustments while crossing the ships coming out of the shipping lanes, the wind had shifted back a little more south westerly. And grown. I saw a 10.3 knots as we surfed down the side of a 3m wave. Lots of fun but I was hoping they wouldn't get any bigger. They didn't! Then rain and drizzle for the last 20 miles meant that the poor visibility getting into Salcombe was more stressful than planned. And we didn't hold out much hope for getting a mooring as it was Salcombe Regatta week. But strangely that helped as we called up "Salcombe Harbour" on the VHF at 22:30 and they replied! And then they gave us the lifeboats mooring (who we'd seen haring out as we came in).
L'aber Wrac'h to Roscoff 2024-08-12 Up early to catch the east going tide. Enough wind to sail for the first dozen miles and then motoring sailed on to Roscoff. Too misty to go through the Chenal De Batz and we hadn't quite made the tide. A few more dolphins came out to play but didn't give me enough forewarning!
Roscoff to L'Aber Wrac'h 2024-07-19 As we left Roscoff the fog came down pretty hard putting the kibosh on our plans to go through the Chenal De Batz. Shame. So up round the north of the Ile De Batz and on to L'Aber Wrac'h. The sail into L'Aber Wrac'h was less daunting than it appeared on the charts but was very rocky (in a good way).
Brest to L'aber Wrac'h 2024-08-10 The wind was invited but failed to show. The tides were calculated to arrive but we didn't see much more than a knots worth in the Chenal Du Four. Once out of the lee of Ushant we got a tiny bit of Atlantic swell to speed us along. The dolphins weren't invited but turned up anyway. Ended up on mooring buoy at L'aber W'rach and the first leg of the homeward journey completed.
Morthoe and north Devon coast 2012-09-04 A stomp around the North Devon coast on the only misty day of our stay at North Morte campsite
Lynmouth to Watersmeet 2012-09-06 A walk up the valley gorge from Lymouth to Watersmeet. Very like the Teign Valley from Dogmarsh Bridge to Fingle Glenn except bigger. Much bigger. Path detailed in the guide book didnt seem to exist.
Portscatho and the Hidden Hut 2019-09-11 20th Wedding Anniversary! Decided to go to The Roseland - Treloan campsite at Portscatho. Walked in the drizzle to beach, Scooby ball chasing & swimming. Lunch at The Hut - tomato soup. Evening spent in the Plume of Feathers pub for anniversary tea - mackerel burgers (delicious) - also very well -behaved Scooby! Walk back along coast path in the dark!
Mortehoe 2018-09-15 Another one of Liz's favourite walks. From North Morte campsite down to Lee and then up and down the rather strenuous coast path round to Mortehoe Point. The coast path coming up to Morte Point is genuinely scary for someone like me with just a hint of vertigo. Still - survived again!
Perranporth 2018-09-12 No trip to the south west would be complete for Scooby hound without a trip to Perranporth and Woolcombe beaches. So we "did" Perranporth on the Wednesday...
Camel Trail 2019-09-20 Walked from Wadebridge to Padstow and back. Lots of cyclists! Padstow hugely crowded as usual but fine for a pastie and ice cream. Long walk for us - 12.5 miles.
Perranporth for Scooby Hound 2021-09-19 Scooby Hound would have the sulks for weeks if he found at we'd been to Cornwall an not given him a low tide walk at Perranporth. Sccoby's knocking on a bit but would still run until he drops - it's just that he'd drop a bit earlier these days so the "ball action" has to be rationed a little bit.
Lands End, Sennen and Gwynver Beach 2019-09-14 Had another free day's parking on the extornionate £6 Lands End parking fee. Walked to Sennen and saw lots of yachts doing the "inshore passage" round Lands' End. On to Gwynver beach (because Scooby asked). Ice creams at Sennen and then back to Treen and G&Ts on the cliff top as the sun went down (and the nudists disappeared).
Pityme pub walk 2021-09-19 To the village of Pityme for a pint. Scooby demanded a bit more of a walk of his "restrictions" on Perranporth. The OS 1:25000 maps on the GPS found a "shortcut" through some fields of corn - came out right by Sharps Brewery (of Doom Bar beer fame - not that either of us drink beer).
Bolberry Down and Soar Mill Sove 2019-09-07 First day of hols! Whiteley's off to new camp-site near Salcombe - remember for family happiness mobile signal not great for route finding! New camp-site with very friendly owners.Walked to Saw Mill Cove lots of dog swimming & ball throwing. Views of Rame Head (Liz's favourite headland!), Burgh Island & the Eddystone. Expensive pints at newly furbished bar on way back.
Fish and chips in Morthoe 2019-09-21 Walk to Morthoe and the rather nice (and huge) fish and chips. Some other bastard had our seats at the cemetery overlooking Woolacombe Bay.
Woolacombe Beach 2019-09-22 Dog on Woolacombe Beach. Dog happy.
Percuil Paddling 2021-09-16 From St Mawes on the Fal up the Percuil River just about as far as is navigable.
Chapel Porth 2021-09-18 In the rain and mist. Always seems to be mizzly when we come to St Agnes. Wheal Coates mine very atmospheric in the mist. Surprised at how little beach there was at Chapel Porth at mid tide. We'll have to come back closer to low tide.
Railway Inn, St Agnes 2022-09-10 A walk into St Agnes to the Railway Inn. Served Aspall's cider, Guiness and the haddock and chips were fine for just over a tenner. Recommended.
Woolacombe Beach 2018-09-16 Last day of our holiday and a quick walk along Woolacombe Beach - Scooby hound would not have been pleased if we'd left without giving him a run along the beach. Met Cathy and Mark S at Putsborough - we were sitting having an ice cream and they were just finishing their first surfing session of the day.
Rock, Padstow and Stepper Point 2018-09-13 Staying at the rather nice (but rather expensive) campsite directly overlooking Polzeath beach, we drove down to Rock and caught the ferry over to Padstow. Padstow was heaving with tourists as expected (even on a Thursday in the middle of September). We then walked on past the famous Doom Bar and on to Stepper Point (on the west side of the entrance to the Camel Estuary). Then back along the sands of the Doom bar at low water to give Scooby hound a run.
Constantine Bay 2019-09-19 James Corden was teaching his dog to do "back flips" on the beach (see photos). Walked to Porthcothan and then on to Constantine Bay for ice creams and a bit of Scooby ball chasing. Doubled the length of the walk just to get some wine from the local shops!
Perranporth 2022-09-11 Well - we couldn't go to north Cornwall without taking Scooby Hound to Perranporth (his 2nd all time favourite beach after Woolacombe). Although he doesn't know it, he's getting on a bit now so for the first time ever we rationed him to only half the length of Perranporth beach. Still a happy hound. Some strange sort of "surf kayak" event going on.
Lands End, Gwenapp and Porthgwarra 2019-09-13 Paid an outrageous £6 for parking at Land's End and then promptly headed off to Gwenapp Head. Watched yacht doing the "inshore passage" round Land's End and then had lunch at Porthgwarra Cafe. Back via an inland route and cabbage fields.
St Agnes 2023-09-12 Scooby Hound was feeling a bit poorly (not eating - very unlike him) so his walk on Perranporth was cancelled). My mid afternoon he'd picked up and wolfed down a late lunch. So we had a short walk to a alter lunch at the Wheal Coates Tea Room.
Perranuthnoe and Prussia Cove 2022-09-09 A new take on an older walk. This time starting from Perranuthnoe (near Marazion), going inland and then back along the coast path via Prussia Cove and Cudden Point. Got a little "Deliverance" at the Common near Kenneggy.
The Helford and Frenchman's Creek 2014-09-08 From Helford Passage via Frenchman's Creek up into Mawgan Creek towards the top of the Helford Estuary. A little windy on the way back meant plenty of exercise!
Mylor Harbour to Trelissick 2014-09-09 From Mylor Harbour to Trelissick and back via Looe Beach. Tried teaching Scooby to swim at Looe Beach but he was too much of a wuss - even for strawberry ice cream.
Scooby at Perranporth 2014-09-10 After putting up with three days of canoeing, Scooby gets some recompense with a walk along Perranporth beach. We walked 5 miles - he probably ran 15 miles.
St Anthony Head hound walk 2014-09-11 Too windy for canoeing (F5/6 from the east) so a yomp with the hound around St Anthony Head. Top walk with just about the right amount of up and downiness.
Anniversary dinner at the Pandora Inn 2014-09-11 After the 6.5 miles yomp round St Anthony Head, another mile and half to the Pandora Inn for our anniversary dinner. Fifteen years married, 21 years together and 30 years since we met. Less for murder as they say (and Liz never reads this blog - I think)!
Porthtowan 2023-09-11 Took the dog to Porthtowan for a walk along the beach. But they don't allow dogs on the beach. Miserable bastards! Coffee instead. Then on to Beacon Cottage Campsite.
Looe beach to Malpas 2014-09-16 A canoe trip from Loe beack up pass Trellisick and King Harry Ferry on to just past Malpas (on the way to Truro). It was a bit windy - force 5 ish - so we didn't go all the way to Truro although we'd got up very early on a holiday day to catch the tide.
Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay 2014-09-17 Actually the GPS track is just of Mawgan Porth but most of Scooby's walk was at Watergate Bay which is one bay to the west of here and quite a bit bigger. Good crab soup at the Beach Hut at Watergate Bay.
Flushing and Mylor 2014-09-18 A round trip from Mylor Bridge to Flushing and then back via Mylor Harbour. Very nice lunch at the cafe at Mylor harbour.
Treen and Penberth Cove 2019-09-12 Walked to Penberth Cove - a Poldark favourite. Past Logan Rock and up through the woods to The Logan Rock pub for a pint. Chicken in residence at the pub.
St Anthonys Head 2015-09-12 Liz's second favourite walk. Around St Anthony's Head on the east side of the Fal Estuary. Scooby enjoyed himself immensely but had to be reduced to "two paw drive" when passing a herd of cows on the cliff edge,
Porthleven - drinking and dining 2023-09-10 Stayed at the rather nice and basic Treza Camping. Then down into Porthleven for a pint or two and some food. Saw Trudy and Colin from Llantwit at the Harbour Inn and then visited the very nice Ship Inn. Find of the evening was The Mussel Shoal where we had truly excellent fish and chips (and another cider).
Perranporth 2015-09-15 Scooby's second favourite beach in the whole world. We walked 5 miles - he probably ran somewhere between 15 and 20 miles. Scooby now crashed out asleep!
Flushing and Mylor 2015-09-16 A circular route to Flushing and back via Mylor Harbour
Hayle Towans and The Bucket Of Blood 2015-09-17 Scooby's beach holiday continues! In theory there are five separate beaches from Hayle (there are certainly five separate lifguard stations) but at low tide they all blend into one seemingly endless beach. Scooby chased the ball from one end to the other. The Bucket Of Blood is the name of a pub in Phillack, Hayle - we didn't stop there but the name makes a good title for the walk.
Rosemullion Head and Mawnan 2015-09-18 Round Rosemullion Head and back via Mawnan Smith. Lovely walk but the plan was slightly spoilt as the midges on the Head put paid to the idea of reading there for a couple of hours.
Creeks and kingfishers 2015-09-19 First canoe trip of the 2015 summer holiday. From Mylor harbour, a little way up Restronguet creek up past the Pandora Inn, on to Looe Beach and then back via Mylor Creek. Had a kingfisher with us for quite a way up Mylor creek.
Padstow 2023-09-13 A short walk from Dennis Cove Campsite into Padstow.
Messack Point 2022-09-04 For a change, we went north from St Just In Roseland round to Messack Point for lunch. Very nice walk slightly spoiled by Scooby Hound trying to eat sheep shit and to play with electric cattle fences.
Dinner at The Pandora 2015-09-22 Lovely fish pie dinner at the "Pan". After a nine mile walk earlier in the day, the drag back up the hill from The Pandora after dinner was just what Lizzie wanted!
Sunny Corner Quay and the Tresillian River 2015-09-23 From the small Sunny Corner Quay on the edge of Truro round to the Tresillian River on the Fal Estuary. Not too far today as there was a keen wind to be paddled against on the way back down the Tresillian.
Portloe and the Roseland Heritage Coast 2015-09-24 A rather long and rather hard walk (for us) as the last walk of our summer hols. From Carne Beach on the south side of the Roseland peninsula, along the coast to Portloe and back via Veryan and Treworlas beach. Longer than the guide book said and some steep hills! Not too scary on the cliff tops. 320 meters of vertical elevation apparently - no wonder we were knackered at the end!
Quick paddle round Cawsand/Kingsand bay 2015-09-25 The forecast offshore north to north west turned out to be almost a southerly so there some small waves as we headed off from Cawsand to Fort Picklecombe. So we turned round and went a little way towards Penlee Point. A very short paddle overall but it broke up the drive home at the end of our summer holidays.
North Lees Campsite 2016-09-03 An over night stop in the peak district - near Kinder Scout - on the way up north. First injury to my back falling over pushing a stalled motor home out of a rut.
Rainy Mevagissey 2022-09-03 A decent off road walk from Heligan campsite down to Megavissey. Got rained on in Meva - a lot. Good coffee on the outer harbour wall.
Lindisfarne - Holy Island 2016-09-06 A walk around the island of Lindisfarne. The journey there was as expected with the road being a causeway accessible at low tide. Once there though, any thoughts of peaceful contemplation etc were blown away by the huge crowds. Skipping swiftly on past the priory and the castle (not least because we'd forgotten our NT cards), we yomped on to the north of the island which was much more pleasing. Scooby's second Northumberland beach well up to scratch apparently.
Dunstanburgh Castle and Craster 2016-09-07 Another day, another Northumberland beach for Scooby. A great walk along to the evocative ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle and then the excellent beaches at Embleton Bay. Back via Craster where the famous smoked fish shop / restaurant was advertising an interesting take on Cullen Skink soup. Unfortunately, they were shut at the time...
Dunbar and Belhaven 2016-09-08 Up to Scotland and to Dunbar. Found a good campsite and Belhaven Bay just to the west of Dunbar. The campsite backed on to Belhaven Bay - another excellent beach walk (not shown on the GPS track) for Scooby - his first Scottish one! Watched a group of Scots getting married on the "Bridge to Nowhere" at Belhaven Bay. Then an evening cliff top walk into Belhaven, past the harbour and then on to The Volunteer for a smoked haddock and mashed potato dinner.
Berwick On Tweed 2016-09-08 A quick walk round Berwick on Tweed - the last English town before heading into Scotland. Probably didn't do it justice but saw some of the town walls that Elizabeth I spent so much on!
Cheswick Beach 2016-09-09 On the advice of Scott C from work, we took the back roads to find Cheswick Beach. Another top Northumbrian beach according to Scooby hound. The beach was pretty much deserted. May be that was due to the warning signs about unexploded ordnance and areas of quicksand? We took the view that that was just the locals trying to keep the grockles from their favourite beach (is grockle the correct term up north?). Anyway - we didn't explode or sink but maybe we turned round slightly earlier than we would normally have!
Bigbury 2023-09-01 Staying at the very nice Folly Farm camp site. A walk down to Bigbury beach to susss out tomorrow's kayaking opportunities.
Heligan Gardens - again 2022-09-02 Round some scabby gardens that someone lost apparently. You can probably tell I was a little underwhelmed by The Lost Gardens Of Heligan. Probably gardening sacrilege to say so. Liz on the other hand loved them. Scooby mostly enthusiastic. Nice cider from the farm shop though. Not cheap either - but happily not at Eden Project pricing levels of mickey taking. Heligan Caravan And Camping Park is nice - and you get a discount for the Gardens which are right next door.
Demense Farm In Bellingham 2016-09-10 Heading west, we were back just below Hardrians Wall at Demense Farm campsite in Bellingham. A campsite on another working farm, Lizzie may object to me mentioning that she complained about the cow mooing overnight.
Kielder Observatory 2016-09-11 Into Kielder Forest and up from Kielder village to Kielder Observatory. Stunning view - but not of the observatory which unsurprisingly looked at little like a wooden box from the outside during the day time,
Skyside Campsite 2016-09-11 No doggie walk here but an absolutely stunning setting for our anniversary dinner outside a pub in the Lake District. I thought the Lake District was about, er, lakes. This campsite was surrounded by crags and pikes and, let's be honest, mountains. A stunning setting. Now known as Skyfall to Lizzie and Aidan (rather than the slightly more prosaic Skyside).
Conniston, Wray and Windemere 2016-09-12 Via Kirkstone Pass and Connistone Water and then on to Windemere. An NT campsite on the shores on Lake Windemere. A lovely campsite and a walk along Windemere and back past Wray Castle
Lligwy beach and Moelfre 2016-09-13 On to an Anglesey and the rather excellent Lligwy Beach. Scooby happy that the "beach quotient" picking up again. Then along the cliff top to the pub in Moelfre and back again. The campsite we were staying at was good with a gate right on to the beach. However, the rules and regulations were a little OTT Actually, we'd recommend the place but they do themselves no favours with their rules and regs so we went on looking for the more liberal parts of Anglesey (well - one can live in hope).
Morthoe walk 2022-09-18 A slightly new take on an old favourite walk around Morthoe. A long walk for us - especially given the slightly fearsome uppy/downy bits on the coast path. The final climb to Morte Point was just as super-scary as I remembered it.
Treen Car Park 2021-09-17 Because Treen Campsite was full with a VW Camper rally (with Seth Lakeman playing), we parked up in the rather splendid Treen village car park (£10 a night - the photo of the cruise ship taken from the car park).
Rhossilli and Llangennith beach 2016-09-16 In a holiday of stunning beaches, this was probably the best. Or was that Llanddwyn Bay? I don't know but this was a sure fire entry into Scooby's all time top five set of beaches. Or probably even higher.
Three Cliffs Bay 2016-09-17 The last of the beaches on Scooby's "Tour Of Britain's Best Beaches". After 1650 miles and 16 days and ten beaches, our final beach was was at Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower. Not quite all to ourselves and there were several thousand people doing a 14 mile walk for Macmillan Nursing.
Looe 2017-09-12 A walk from Bay View Farm campsite down to Looe, on to Hannafore Point and then opposite St Georges Island
The Lizard and Cadgwith 2017-09-13 From Henrys Place campsite at the Lizard (not our favourite of the holiday) long the cliff tops to Cadgwith and then back inland. Made a change to our more usual walks towards Kynance Cove.
Porthcurno and Porthgwarra 2017-09-14 From Treen Campsite (one of our favourites), a mixture of clifftops and a little inland to Porthgwarra. Back past the Minack Theatre.
Woolacombe Beach 2022-09-17 We couldn't come to north Devon without giving Scooby Hound his walk on Woolacombe Beach. However, because he is an old boy, we have to reduce the amount of time he gets to spend haring around after the ball on the beach. So the outward leg was along Marine Drive rather than the beach.
Chapel Porth and Porthtowan 2022-09-10 Past the evocative Wheal Coates mine and down to Chapel Porth beach. With a Springs low tide we then walked along to Porthtowan beach. Scooby Hound very happy to have his first proper beach walk of the holiday.
Godrevy and Hells Mouth 2017-09-18 From Gwithian Farm campsite, past Godrevy Beach and on past Godrevy Lighthouse. Then on past an inaccessible cove where about 15-20 seals were resting, Then on to the rather splendidly named Hells Mouth where the lonely Hells Mouth Cafe did a great cappuccino.
Perranporth Beach 2017-09-19 We couldn't come to Cornwall and not give Scooby an outing on Perranporth Beach - probably his favouritist in the world! So up fairly early to catch the low tide. Scooby a happy but tired hound.
Hartland Quay 2017-09-20 A short walk to dinner from Stoke Barton Campsite on Hartland Point. Hartland Point is a scary place if you think about sailing near it in the wind or fog and the granite "teeth" of the rocks only enhance this. The Hartland Quay Hotel was a really nice pub doing good food.
Woolacombe and Putsborough 2017-09-22 Scooby wouldnt have been happy if we'd come to north Devon and not given him a run along Woolacombe Beach at low tide. In a fairly wet and windy two week holiday, this was the only walk where we actually got soaked by the rain. However, we dried out a bit in the cafe at Putsborough and then the walk back in the wind meant that we were dry by the time we got back to the camper van on Marine Drive. The photos include a couple from North Morte campsite looking at the sunset over Lundy Island.
Saunton Sands and Burrows 2017-09-23 Scooby's final beach walk of the holiday. Along the seemingly endless Saunton Sands at low tide. Then back inland to the east of the Burrows before finally cutting across the Burrows to give Scooby a final bit of of beach action before an ice cream at Saunton Sands.
Morthoe Fish And Chips 2022-09-16 Been looking forward to this for 3 months! With over 3 months of healthy eating / weight loss behind me, I'd been looking forward to a proper fish and chips overlooking Woolacombe Bay. Lovely.

Rosemullion Head 2018-09-05 A new take on another of Liz's favourite walks - to Rosemullion Head (between the Fal and the Helford). Helford River 2018-09-06 A short walk down to one of our favourite canoeing spots on the Helford - without a canoe this time. This is where Scooby previously learnt to swim just for the fun of it so Liz was keen to take him back for another paddle.
Logan Rock and Penberth Cove 2018-09-07 On to one of our favourite campsites - Treen (just near the Minack Theatre and Lands End). Photos are from the "nature ramble" that Liz went on - organised by the Treen pirate. Photos of Scooby at Penberth Cove are by Liz as the nature ramble also went that way.
